Report: Jokic won't sign extension this offseason

Nikola Jokic informed the Denver Nuggets that he won't be signing a contract extension this offseason, sources told Bennett Durando of The Denver Post.

Jokic became eligible Tuesday to ink a three-year contract extension worth up to $212 million.

However, the seven-time All-Star could earn approximately $80 million more if he waits until next summer to sign an extension, adds Durando.

"We're definitely going to offer it," Nuggets president of basketball operations Josh Kroenke said in June about a potential contract extension for Jokic, per Durando. "I'm not sure if he's going to accept it or not, because we're also going to explain every financial parameter around him signing now versus signing later.

"To be completely transparent, that's the way we always are. And then he makes the best decision for himself and his family, and we'll support him in it."

Jokic has at least two more seasons remaining on his current deal. He holds a $62.8-million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.

The Serbian superstar is coming off arguably his best NBA campaign, setting new career highs in points (29.6 per contest), assists (10.2), steals (1.8), and 3-point percentage (41.7%).

Jokic was gunning for his fourth MVP award but finished second to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Nuggets made their third straight second-round appearance in the NBA playoffs, where they fell in seven games to the Thunder.
