Mavs sign Washington to 4-year, $90M extension

The Dallas Mavericks signed P.J. Washington to a four-year, $90-million contract extension, his agent told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The new deal will keep Washington in Dallas through the 2029-30 campaign. He was previously set to become a free agent in summer 2026.

Washington is ineligible to be dealt this season, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Dallas already locked up Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford earlier this summer. Irving declined his $43-million player option for 2025-26 in favor of a new three-year, $118.5-million contract, and Gafford inked a three-year, $60-million extension.

Washington averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 boards, and 2.3 assists across 57 appearances last season. Dallas acquired him from the Charlotte Hornets in February 2024, and he started all 22 games during the Mavs' run to the Finals that year.

Dallas now has one of the NBA's deeper frontcourts under contract for multiple seasons. Anthony Davis has at least two years left on his deal, while Dereck Lively II and Cooper Flagg are both on their rookie-scale contracts.
