Report: Pelicans keeping Zion, Murphy, Jones past deadline
Don't expect a fire sale from the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Pelicans have informed teams that Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, Derik Queen, and Jeremiah Fears will remain with the organization past the Feb. 5 trade deadline, sources told Amazon Prime Video's Chris Haynes.
Previous reports already indicated New Orleans wasn't interested in trading Jones.
It's been another rough campaign in the Big Easy.
The Pelicans fired head coach Willie Green in November after a 2-10 start, and they haven't fared much better under interim coach James Borrego.
New Orleans has dropped nine consecutive games and sits at the bottom of the West with an 8-31 record entering Friday's play.
However, the Pelicans have plenty of incentive to compete as the Atlanta Hawks own their 2026 first-round pick as part of the Queen trade on draft night.
New Orleans has also been affected by injuries for a second straight season. Williamson and Jones have both missed extended time, while Dejounte Murray has yet to play since tearing his right Achilles tendon in January 2025.
Williamson, Murphy, and Jones are each under contract for at least three more seasons. Queen and Fears are in the first year of their rookie deals.
