Report: AD could miss months with ligament damage in hand
Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis sustained ligament damage in his left hand during Thursday's contest against the Utah Jazz, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon.
Davis could miss several months if a second opinion determines that surgery is required, Charania and MacMahon add.
An MRI discovered the ligament damage in Davis' hand, Dallas confirmed Friday, adding that the 6-foot-10 forward is seeking multiple opinions on his next steps.
The 10-time All-Star exited with 2:08 remaining in the fourth quarter after Jazz big man Lauri Markkanen made contact with his hand on a baseline drive.
Davis immediately grabbed his left hand and was in visible pain as he headed to the locker room.

Davis has struggled to stay healthy since Dallas acquired him from the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025 as part of the Luka Doncic blockbuster trade.
The former No. 1 overall pick made just nine appearances with the Mavs in 2024-25 and missed a month earlier this season due to a calf injury.
Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 boards, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 blocks across 20 games this campaign.
The 32-year-old has been linked to several teams ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, but his injury could affect his chances of being dealt.
Dallas' frontcourt is already thin with Dereck Lively II done for the year and P.J. Washington sidelined with an ankle injury.
The Mavs sit 11th in the West with a 14-24 record, just two and a half games back of the Memphis Grizzlies for the final play-in tournament spot.
Dallas owns its 2026 first-round pick but cedes control of its future first-rounders until 2031.
