Report: Brunson calls players-only meeting after lopsided loss to Mavs
Jalen Brunson called a players-only meeting following the New York Knicks' 114-97 defeat to the Dallas Mavericks on Monday, sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
Brunson reportedly told his teammates they needed to find their own solutions for their recent struggles as opposed to depending on the coaching staff.
Knicks forward Josh Hart said the team needed to do some "soul-searching" after a lackluster showing led to New York's ninth loss in 11 games.
Brunson agreed with his teammate's sentiment and emphasized the urgency of turning things around.
"Should've started a couple weeks ago, but we gotta start tomorrow. ... We've got to figure this out fast," Brunson told reporters, per SNY.
The Knicks got off to a 23-9 start and defeated the San Antonio Spurs in December to capture their first NBA Cup.
However, they've struggled on both ends of the floor since their slump began Dec. 31, ranking 25th in offensive efficiency and 28th in defensive efficiency.
New York sits third in the East entering Tuesday's play yet is only 1.5 games ahead of the sixth-seeded Orlando Magic for the conference's final guaranteed playoff spot.
