The Boston Celtics selected William & Mary guard Marcus Thornton with the No. 45 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
Thornton is a bit off-board - he wasn't on any final major mock draft - but he's the school's all-time leading scorer and has the type of toughness the Celtics seem to like from their guards. He had an impressive combine, at least in the 5-on-5 portion, following up a strong Portsmouth Invitational showing.
Few players are faster than the 177-pound Thornton, who had the combine's fastest sprint time and one of the top vertical jumps. He used those tools to average 20 points as a senior, shooting 45.3 percent from the floor and 38.8 percent on a high volume of 3-pointers. He's diminutive, but there's a non-zero chance he can carve out a role as a bench scorer in the NBA.
Boston used their No. 16 pick in the first round to draft Terry Rozier out of the University of Louisville, and they had a clear edict to add some offense.
Georgia State's R.J. Hunter and LSU's Jordan Mickey will also be heading to Beantown next season after being selected with the No. 28 and 33 picks, respectively.
