Report: David West wants to chase title, 'is not coming to the Knicks'

Contrary to an earlier report, veteran power forward David West might not be so bullish on the Big Apple.

The 35-year-old West opted out of his player option worth $12 million with the Indiana Pacers last week and will test the free agency waters, where he is said to be interested in chasing a title.

So, in other words, West is not interested in signing with the lowly New York Knicks, reports Marc Berman of the New York Post.

If it's money West wants, the Knicks have plenty of riches. However, they finished with a woeful record of 17-65 last season and are nowhere near winning a championship.

There might also be a logjam in the Knicks' frontcourt. Carmelo Anthony is most effective as a power forward - much like West - and president Phil Jackson drafted a stretch-four in Kristaps Porzingis with the fourth pick.

West will likely find better offers elsewhere. Despite his advanced age, he remains a lethal operator in the mid range and an effective defender. He can't play as many minutes as he used to, and his rebounding has slipped, but he would be a welcome addition to any aspiring championship hopeful.

West averaged 11.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 28.7 minutes per game last season.
