Report: World Peace to transition into assistant coaching role with Lakers
Metta World Peace's return to the Los Angeles Lakers includes a blueprint for him to remain a part of the franchise beyond his playing career.
After surviving the Lakers' recent roster cuts to snag a roster spot for the 2015-16 regular season, there are now plans in place for World Peace to slowly transition into an assistant coach with the team, according to Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.
The 35-year-old has already begun serving as a mentor to some of the Lakers' younger players, including second-year forward Julius Randle, who recently credited World Peace's "knowledge and wisdom" as being major assets for the team.
Los Angeles first signed World Peace in July of 2009, and amnestied him following the 2012-13 season to gain cap relief. He's averaged 9.9 points, four rebounds, and 2.2 assists over 298 career games with the Lakers, and helped the franchise win their most recent championship in 2010.
The Lakers waived guard Jabari Brown on Monday to free a roster spot for World Peace.
