NBA suspends Ty Lawson for 2 games for DUI charge

The NBA announced Friday that Houston Rockets point guard Ty Lawson has been suspended two games as a result of previous DUI charges. The suspension will begin Saturday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The suspension stems from Lawson's January arrest for a DUI while a member of the Denver Nuggets, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen.

Lawson was arrested again in July for driving while intoxicated in California, and was ordered into rehab by a judge. He was then traded to the Rockets.

The 5-foot-11 playmaker is having, by far, his worst season as a pro, averaging 5.9 points per game on sub-33 percent shooting. The intent to play him opposite the ball-dominant James Harden in the backcourt failed miserably, relegating the North Carolina alum to the bench, from where he has been held scoreless in his last two games.

Lawson's player efficiency rating is currently 7.9.

With the suspension, Houston will save paying Lawson $225,000 in salary, which in turn will save them money in the luxury tax department.
