Adams, UConn top Cincinnait 107-97 in 4 OT in
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Jalen Adams, who hit a three-quarter court shot at the end of the third overtime, scored eight of his career-high 22 points in the fourth overtime, and UConn defeated Cincinnati 104-97 in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Friday.
Cincinnati appeared to have won the game when Kevin Johnson hit a 3-pointer from the left wing for an 88-85 lead with less than a second left in the third overtime. But the Huskies inbounded the ball to Adams with .8 seconds left and he took several dribbles and launched a 70-foot shot to shock the Bearcats.
Adams the made two baskets, sandwiched around a key offensive rebound that led two free throws by Sterling Gibbs that put UConn up for good, 92-91 with 3:09 left. Adams also made four free throws in the final minute.
Daniel Hamilton led fifth-seeded UConn (22-10), which faces top-seeded Temple in Saturday's semifinals, with a career-high 32 points.
Troy Caupain had a career-high 37 for the fourth-seeded Bearcats (22-10), who beat the Huskies by one and five in the two regular-season meetings.
