30-year-old man busted for playing high school basketball in Canada
Standing 6-foot-9 and weighing 202 pounds, Jonathan Nicola was a dominant force this past season for Catholic Central High School in Windsor, ON.
On Wednesday, Nicola was arrested by Canadian border officials who believe the African native is 30 years old.
Nicola had been attending Catholic Central and posing as a teenager for six months while on a student visa. He's currently being detained under the authority of the Immigration Refugee Protection Act.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board hasn't divulged much information on the charge, but it did discuss the general protocol for international students.
"Generally I can tell you that we have a system of checks and balances in place that whenever international students are coming into any of our schools, we make sure that they have all of the necessary government documentation that they require in order to be in one of our schools," spokesman Stephen Fields told the Windsor Star.
Nicola was registered as a 17-year-old 11th-grade student, and was living with Comets head coach Peter Cusumano through a program called Canada Homestay. The school hosted the All-Ontario Championships in March, losing in the consolation round.
The following video of Nicola was taken during a workout earlier this season.
