The Mike Rice era at Rutgers may have ended more than three years ago, but the fallout of his abuse scandal continues to have heavy ramifications for the university.

The school recently settled a lawsuit with former forward Derrick Randall for $300,000 after he "sought damages for assault and battery, breach of fiduciary duty, negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress, interference with prospective economic advantage, discrimination, and violations of his civil rights and of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act," according to Jerry Carino of USA Today.

In addition to the settlement, Rutgers will pay the $6,800 fee for Randall's expert witness. However, the school won't admit to any wrongdoing by itself or anyone else named in the suit.

Randall, who is learning disabled, had named Rutgers, Rice, former athletics director Tim Pernetti, former assistant coach Jimmy Martelli, athletics chief financial officer Janine Purcaro, president Robert Barchi, and former chairman of the board of governors' committee on intercollegiate athletics Mark Hershhorn as part of the lawsuit.

Rice was fired in April of 2013 after a report by ESPN's "Outside the Lines" aired video of the coach's reprehensible behavior during practice, which included berating, hitting, and using slurs against his players. Randall transferred to Pitt following Rice's firing and played the final two seasons of his collegiate career for the Panthers.
