UCLA, Under Armour sign largest shoe and apparel deal in college history
UCLA and Under Armour agreed to the largest shoe and apparel deal in college history Tuesday, as first reported by ESPN's Darren Rovell.
The deal will run for 15 years and is worth $280 million, which tops the 15-year, $252-million deal Ohio State inked with Nike in January. It includes $15 million in cash up front, and around $11 million each year for marketing and rights fees, according to David Wharton of the Los Angeles Times.
"We knew that we were well-positioned to cut a deal," said UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero. "Under Armour came at us hard."
UCLA, which had been with Adidas since 1999, joins a growing list of college programs outfitted by the apparel giant. Wisconsin and Notre Dame both completed recent deals to switch to Under Armour, as did Pac 12 rival Cal, which signed a 10-year, $86-million contract with the company in April.
