Report: Former Maryland star Juan Dixon let go as special assistant
Juan Dixon's second tenure with Maryland did not end as miraculously as his first.
The leader of the 2002 national championship team was relieved of his duties as a special assistant Tuesday after meeting with head coach Mark Turgeon, a source told Roman Stubbs of The Washington Post.
Dixon had been a member of Turgeon's staff since 2013 in a role that was described as pertaining to "scouting and film breakdown, academic support, and mentorship, and additional administrative duties," according to Maryland's athletic department website.
Dixon is believed to be seeking other NCAA coaching opportunities. He holds the record as Maryland's leading scorer with 2,269 points and played parts of nine NBA seasons with the Washington Wizards, Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, and Detroit Pistons.
