Goin' streaking: 5 runs that could come to an end Saturday

Joshua Lindsey-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday features a loaded slate of college basketball games, with some tantalizing matchups between ranked opponents.

In a fair amount of the games, there's more on the line than just a win or a loss, as at least one of the teams is putting an impressive streak on the line.

Here are five streaks that could end Saturday:

Florida - 12 straight losses against top-eight opponents

Kentucky heads to Florida on Saturday night having lost two of its last three games, but certainly has history on its side for the SEC matchup. The Gators have lost 12 straight games against top-eight opponents, and will hope to end that run with a win over the eighth-ranked Wildcats. Four of Florida's five losses this season have come against ranked opponents, and its yet to have beaten a ranked team this year. To make the job tougher for the Gators, Kentucky's star point guard, De'Aaron Fox, will return to the lineup after missing one game with the flu.

Oregon - 39 straight home wins, Arizona - 15 straight wins

One of these streaks will end Saturday when Arizona storms into Matthew Knight Arena for a huge Pac-12 matchup with Oregon. The Ducks have reeled off 39 straight home wins - second among active NCAA streaks - while Arizona has won 15 straight games, shooting to the top of the conference standings. The Ducks' streak nearly ended midweek when they barely escaped with a one-point win over Arizona State, but one would think they'll be more focused for this massive contest.

Maryland - Seven straight Big Ten wins

With four starters gone from last year's team, many expected Maryland to struggle this season, but the Terrapins have looked fantastic in racing out to a 20-2 start. That includes an 8-1 mark in Big Ten play, including seven straight victories. If that streak is going to continue, they'll have to take down No. 23 Purdue at home Saturday. Maryland's two losses this season have both come at home, to Pitt and Nebraska, and the Terrapins will have to keep Caleb Swanigan under control to keep things rolling.

Kansas - 54 straight home wins

Kansas holds the nation's longest active home winning streak at 54 games, which makes Iowa State's task Saturday virtually impossible. Bill Self has coached 226 games at Phog Allen Fieldhouse, and the Jayhawks have only lost nine in that span. The Cyclones almost knocked off Kansas earlier in the season at home, losing a close four-point contest, so this one could be tighter than expected.
