10 incredible photos from North Carolina's championship win

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

North Carolina earned some redemption Monday night, defeating Gonzaga for the national championship and avenging its loss to Villanova in last year's title game.

The win marked the sixth national title in North Carolina's history and the third with head coach Roy Williams at the helm. It also provided some incredible images, as the Tar Heels and Bulldogs gave it everything they had in the final game of the season.

Here are 10 incredible photos from North Carolina's victory:

The scene before the game: University of Phoenix Stadium packed for the big event.

The anticipation reached its boiling point as the opening tip was tossed up.

Theo Pinson got the Tar Heels off to a hot start, opening the scoring with a slam dunk.

Not everything went smoothly for North Carolina, though, and Roy Williams was fiery on the bench.

Speaking of fiery, Michael Phelps attended the title game, and may have spent a little too long in the Phoenix sun beforehand.

When there are over 70,000 fans in attendance it can be hard to hear your own thoughts. Just ask Mark Few.

The game was close down to the end, but Justin Jackson's dunk in the final seconds helped put the seal on a North Carolina win.

Joel Berry II rebounded after a poor semifinal to lead the way with 22 points and earn Most Outstanding Player honors.

Nigel Williams-Goss did all he could to get Gonzaga to the mountaintop, but had to watch as the Tar Heels celebrated instead.

And what better way to celebrate your win than with a team selfie?
