Report: Kentucky's Hawkins drawing interest from NFL teams
There have been a number of college basketball players making the switch to football for a shot at the NFL in recent years, but Kentucky's Dominique Hawkins would be a unique case.
NBA draft analyst Jonathan Givony of Draft Express told Ben Roberts of Kentucky.com that the Wildcats guard has been receiving interest from NFL teams.
Hawkins, who played four seasons under John Calipari at Kentucky, recently wowed NBA scouts with a 44.5-inch vertical leap at the school's pro combines. That type of athleticism has led NFL teams to contact his high school football coach, Allen Feldhaus Jr., and ask about Hawkins' potential to play defensive back at the professional level.
Players like Jimmy Graham, Antonio Gates, and Rico Gathers have made the move from college hoops to the NFL in recent memory, but all were at the tight end position.
Professional basketball is certainly still the top option for the 6-foot 190-pounder, but it looks as though football could be potential fallback plan.
Here are some highlights from Hawkins' high school football days.
