CBS hires former NFL, NCAA official Gene Steratore as rules analyst

Gene Steratore wasn't out of work for long, as the recently-retired NFL official will join CBS Sports as a rules analyst for its NFL on CBS broadcasts.

Not only will Steratore contribute to NFL coverage, but he will also work on the network's college basketball games as well, after serving for over 20 years as an NCAA official.

The 15-year NFL official capped his career by serving as the head referee for Super Bowl LII.

"I'm excited to join CBS Sports and start the next chapter in my career," Steratore said in a statement. "I've had an amazing run, capped off by working in the Super Bowl, but it's time to hang up my whistle for a new challenge. This is an incredible opportunity to continue working on the two sports I love - NFL football and college basketball - and help viewers gain a better understanding of the rules of the game and how they are applied."

Officiating runs deep in Steratore's family as his brother Tony is currently an NFL back judge.
