Evansville transfer DeAndre Williams has committed to Memphis, he told 247Sports' Evan Daniels on Friday.

Williams produced a strong sophomore campaign for the Purple Aces, leading the team in both scoring (15.2 points per game) and rebounding (6.9).

The 6-foot-9 forward also attracted interest from Kentucky, Baylor, and Arkansas, but he ultimately chose Memphis due to his relationship with head coach Penny Hardaway.

"Out of all the coaches, he got close and personal with me," Williams said. "I felt that relationship throughout the whole process. He didn't have any assistant coaches calling me, he was hands-on and just him.

"That kind of stuck with me a lot and plus he's a Hall of Famer. I feel like I can get developed real good with him and his staff and I just feel like it's the perfect fit for me."

Williams now plans to apply for a waiver in order to be eligible for the 2020-21 season.

Memphis' frontcourt has taken a hit this offseason with potential No. 1 overall pick James Wiseman and AAC Player of the Year Precious Achiuwa both declaring for the NBA draft.

The Tigers posted a 21-10 overall record in 2019-20, including a 10-8 mark in conference play.
