Pac-12 eliminates intraconference transfer rule

The Pac-12 announced Monday the elimination of its intraconference transfer rule.

Student-athletes will now be allowed to transfer between Pac-12 schools without losing one year of eligibility.

The decision was approved unanimously. It only applies to first-time undergraduate transfers.

"The Pac-12 mission is to develop the next generation of leaders in academics and athletics," Oregon president Michael Schill said in a statement. "Providing student-athletes with more flexibility in choosing their path and greater representation in the Pac-12 governance process strengthens our commitment to achieving that mission."

The NCAA will govern the eligibility of intraconference transfers moving forward.

The Pac-12, which recently announced George Kliavkoff as its new commissioner, is the third Power 5 conference to eliminate the transfer rule after the Big 12 and ACC. Other conferences that have made that change include the AAC, MAC, and Mountain West.
