West Virginia inks longtime coach Huggins to extension through 2024
West Virginia signed longtime men's basketball head coach Bob Huggins to a contract extension through the 2023-24 season, director of athletics and associate vice president Shane Lyons announced Friday.
Huggins' new deal includes an option to stay on until June 2027.
"I certainly appreciate the opportunity that I've been given to represent this great university and state that I love so much," Huggins said in a statement. "As I've said before, I am blessed to coach at my alma mater - the place that all West Virginians love. I'm truly blessed."
Huggins was born in Morgantown and played three collegiate seasons for his hometown school. He began his coaching career in 1977 as an assistant with the Mountaineers and later returned to the program 30 years later to succeed John Beilein as head coach.
Huggins holds a 310-171 record during his 14-season tenure with his alma mater. He's guided West Virginia to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four run in 2010.
Last March, the 67-year-old became the sixth men's Division I head coach to win 900 games.
