Creighton's McDermott signs extension
Creighton signed Greg McDermott to an extension that will keep the head coach in Omaha through the 2027-28 season, the school announced Friday. His previous contract was set to expire after the 2025-26 campaign.
"There is no place I would rather be for the rest of my career than Creighton," McDermott announced in a statement released by the school.
McDermott will be one of the highest-paid coaches in the Big East, according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello.
"This extension recognizes Greg's exceptional achievements as our head coach and the positive impact he has had on the culture of Creighton men's basketball," said Marcus Blossom, Creighton University's athletic director.
The 59-year-old has compiled a 322-158 record over 14 seasons with the Bluejays and has led the program to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the Elite Eight in 2023.
McDermott also oversaw Creighton's move from the Missouri Valley Conference to the Big East during the 2013-14 season.
The Bluejays rank No. 10 in the AP Poll and sit second in the Big East with a 13-6 record.
Creighton closes its regular season against Villanova on Saturday.
