Auburn's Broome suffers 'significant' ankle sprain vs. South Carolina
Auburn star Johni Broome sustained a "significant" left ankle sprain during Saturday's 66-63 win over South Carolina, head coach Bruce Pearl said postgame on the SEC Network, per ESPN's Jeff Borzello.
Pearl added that Broome will undergo an MRI later this evening to determine if the big man suffered any additional damage, according to Borzello.
Broome suffered the injury in the second half when he landed on teammate Chaney Johnson's foot while attempting to corral a rebound. The fifth-year forward immediately screamed in pain and didn't put any weight on his left foot as he was helped off the court.
Broome has been a huge part of the Tigers' strong start and was widely considered the front-runner for the Wooden Award. He entered Saturday's matchup averaging 18.7 points, 11.2 boards, 3.4 assists, and 2.7 blocks across 15 appearances.
His 10 double-doubles were tied for fourth in the nation.
