Report: McNeese State's Wade to become NC State's next head coach

McNeese State bench boss Will Wade reached an agreement to become the next head coach at NC State, sources told ESPN's Jeff Borzello.

Wade will make the switch following McNeese State's run in March Madness.

NC State fired Kevin Keatts on March 9 after the Wolfpack went 12-19 overall and 5-15 in the ACC this season. Keatts spent eight campaigns with the program.

Wade is in his second season with McNeese State. He's led them to 57 wins during that time, the most in a two-year span in the program's history. He earned Southland Conference Coach of the Year honors in both years.

The 42-year-old's last high-major job was with LSU from 2017-22. He was fired after the school received a notice of allegations from the NCAA.

Wade also coached VCU from 2015-17, leading the program to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. He led LSU to the Big Dance three times and McNeese State the last two years.

Wade confirmed earlier Wednesday that he discussed the open position with NC State, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel and Mike Reiss.

McNeese State will face Clemson in the Round of 64 on Thursday.
