VIDEO: Clemson calls timeout it doesn't have; loses 72-70 to Gardner-Webb
Well, this is embarrassing.
After giving up a 68-63 lead over Gardner-Webb with 1:01 left in the fourth quarter, Clemson did the unthinkable – the Tigers called a timeout that they didn't have, were assessed a technical foul because of it and lost the game on the ensuing free throws.
With 6.6 seconds left on the clock, Gardner-Webb's Tyler Strange knocked down a 3-pointer to tie the game at 70.
Fast forward to the 1:52 mark in the video below to see what happened next.
After calling the phantom timeout, Gardner-Webb went on to hit both of its free throws and handed the Tigers their second loss in as many games.
What's even more embarrassing is the fact that head coach Brad Brownell apparently didn't know that he had burned through all of his timeouts.
#Clemson coach Brad Brownell says they didn't know they didn't have a timeout left on the radio broadcast. Says it's his responsibility.
