Power Ranking all 68 teams in the NCAA tournament

Mark Dolejs-USA TODAY Sports

With the 68-team field for March Madness announced Sunday, it only seems right to rank them from 1-68. Here's a very early look at how the 2015 tournament contenders stack up.

1. KENTUCKY (34-0)
No surprise here. The only undefeated team in the nation was the obvious choice as the tournament's No. 1 overall seed.

2. VILLANOVA (32-2)
The Wildcats won the Big East handily and their opening matchup against Lafayette will come exactly two months to the day since they last lost.

3. DUKE (29-4)
The Blue Devils may not have won the ACC, but they did more than enough this season to deserve a No. 1 seed.

4. WISCONSIN (31-3)
If the Badgers didn't beat Michigan State in the Big Ten championship, they may not have walked out with a No. 1 seed Sunday.

5. ARIZONA (31-3)
Wisconsin's win was Arizona's loss, as the Wildcats would likely have taken the No. 1 seed were the Badgers to lose the Big Ten title game.

6. VIRGINIA (29-3)
The Cavaliers looked like one of the best teams in the nation all season, but Justin Anderson's rusty return left the selection committee with some big questions.

7. GONZAGA (32-2)
Gonzaga's record looks impressive, but the Bulldogs lack any real marquee wins.

8. KANSAS (26-8)
The Jayhawks got Perry Ellis back from injury, but a Cliff Alexander return is a lot less likely and that's a huge hole to try and fill.

9. NOTRE DAME (29-5)
The winners of the ACC tournament seemed to deserve a 2-seed, but dropping to No. 3 may serve as motivation for the Fighting Irish.

10. IOWA STATE (25-8)
After beating Kansas for the Big 12 tournament title, the Cyclones are big-game tested and ready for a big run.

11. LOUISVILLE (24-8)
Despite an up-and-down season in the ultra-competitive ACC, Louisville can lean on Montrezl Harrell and Terry Rozier to provide clutch play.

12. BAYLOR (24-9)
The Bears went 7-5 against ranked opponents this season, so they are no stranger to high-pressure games.

13. NORTHERN IOWA (30-3)
Wichita State is the only difficult team the Panthers have faced since the calendar turned to 2015. It will be worth noting how they handle tougher competition in the tournament.

14. NORTH CAROLINA (24-11)
Despite a loss in the ACC title game, the Tar Heels earned victories over Louisville and Virginia in the conference tournament and should come in with a lot of confidence.

15. OKLAHOMA (22-10)
If the duo of Buddy Hield and Isaiah Cousins get hot from beyond the arc, the Sooners will be a difficult out for any opponent.

16. MARYLAND (27-6)
The Terrapins were upset by Michigan State in the Big Ten tourney and will need to find a way to consistently score in the Big Dance.

17. GEORGETOWN (21-10)
The Hoyas will be glad neither Xavier nor Providence ended up in the South Region, as Georgetown went 0-5 against its Big East rivals this year.

18. WEST VIRGINIA (23-9)
After going 5-6 down the stretch, the Mountaineers will have a fight on their hands with an opening game against Buffalo

19. UTAH (24-8)
Delon Wright gives the Utes senior experience and they will heavily rely on his ability to score to make some noise.

20. ARKANSAS (26-8)
The Razorbacks were unable to slow down Kentucky, but they're not alone in that respect. Bobby Portis and Michael Qualls give Arkansas a solid duo that's tough to contain.

21. WICHITA STATE (28-4)
The Shockers return most of last year's squad that earned a No. 1 seed and could be a dangerous bracket buster this time out.

22. SMU (27-6)
Larry Brown has the Mustangs back in March Madness for the first time since 1993. They won't be happy with just getting there, though, even with last year's snub.

23. PROVIDENCE (22-11)
The Friars will have to wait to find out their first opponent with LaDontae Henton ready to lead the way whether it's against Boise State or Dayton.

24. XAVIER (21-13)
A 9-9 record in the Big East doesn't look great, but the Musketeers can boast about wins over tournament-teams Georgetown, Providence, Stephen F. Austin, Cincinnati and Butler.

25. BUTLER (22-10)
Speaking of Butler, the Bulldogs enter the tournament with a lack of big men and that could hurt them against larger opponents.

26. IOWA (21-11)
The Hawkeyes were upset in their first game of the Big Ten tourney and will have to rebound quickly with a date with a sneaky-good Davidson team.

27. VCU (26-9)
Shaka Smart's squad punched its ticket by winning the Atlantic 10 championship, and will heavily rely on its ability to create turnovers.

28. MICHIGAN STATE (23-11)
A run to the Big Ten final gave the Spartans a boost and a potential second tournament game against Virginia looks very intriguing.

29. NC STATE (20-13)
After a 2-8 stretch in January and February, the Wolfpack won six of their last eight including a huge victory over North Carolina.

30. OREGON (25-9)
Making the Pac-12 championship was an accomplishment. Losing 80-52 to Arizona was not.

31. ST. JOHN'S (21-11)
The Red Storm ended the year with a pair of losses which likely led to their inclusion in the dreaded eight-nine matchup.

32. SAN DIEGO STATE (26-8)
The Aztecs will be in tough against St. John's and will need to score more than the 43 they had in the Mountain West title game if they are going to advance in the tournament.

33. OHIO STATE (23-10)
The Buckeyes were a bit of a disappointment this season, but with D'Angelo Russell in the backcourt, they have the ability to beat just about anyone.

34. CINCINNATI (22-10)
The Bearcats will be counting on their solid defense to shut down opponents because they finished 294th in the nation in scoring and don't have a single player averaging more than 10 points.

35. OKLAHOMA STATE (18-13)
To say the Cowboys are on the down swing would be a massive understatement. They've lost six of their last seven games.

36. PURDUE (21-12)
The Boilermakers return to the tournament for the first time in three years sporting a balanced attack on offense.

37. LSU (22-10)
Ralston Turner can give the Tigers some insider knowledge after spending the first two years of his college career with NC State, LSU's opening opponent.

38. INDIANA (20-13)
As one of five schools from Indiana in the Midwest Region, the Hoosiers will have a tough time proving they are the best in the state.

39. GEORGIA (21-11)
The Bulldogs have been unable to string wins together for the last two months but have a solid shot of moving on against Michigan State.

40. DAVIDSON (24-7)
After a one-year absence the Wildcats are back in the tournament, though their chances of advancing very far hinge on Steph Curry finding some unused eligibility and returning to the team.

41. TEXAS (20-13)
One of the most frustrating teams in the tournament, the Longhorns had some big victories this season but also two separate four-game losing streaks.

42. DAYTON (25-8)
The Flyers have to play in a First Four game, but with home-court advantage they should be moving on to meet Providence.

43. BYU (25-9)
The Cougars are a sneaky-good team and with walking triple-double Kyle Collinsworth they should not only beat Ole Miss in the First Four, but could give Xavier a run for its money.

44. BUFFALO (23-9)
Buffalo's first ever trip to the Big Dance should be a learning experience and with the Bulls riding an eight-game win streak, they may have the confidence to do some damage.

45. BOISE STATE (25-8)
The Broncos got a tough draw in the First Four, having to play Dayton in Dayton. They'll have to take on an us against the world mentality to make it to the round of 64.

46. OLE MISS (20-12)
With losses in four of their last five games, the Rebels are looking like they may not even make it to Thursday.

47. WOFFORD (28-6)
The Terriers may have won 15 of their last 16, but none of those wins came against a team as talented as the kind Wofford will see in the tournament.

48. UCLA (20-13)
The most contentious choice of the field of 68, the Bruins will be out to prove their inclusion was not a mistake.

49. WYOMING (25-9)
Wyoming upset San Diego State in the Mountain West championship, giving the Cowboys a tournament berth and making all bubble teams scream with anger.

50. STEPHEN F. AUSTIN (29-4)
No Stone Cold Steve Austin jokes here, just a team that has very little experience losing this season.

51. HARVARD (22-7)
The Ivy League representative will take on a school embroiled in an academic scandal. Unfortunately for the Crimson, they have to play on the court and not in the classroom.

52. EASTERN WASHINGTON (26-8)
Tyler Harvey and Venky Jois combine to score nearly 40 points a game and they will have to be at their best to give the Eagles a shot.

53. VALPARAISO (28-5)
The Crusaders faced one team from a Power 5 conference this season and lost by 15 to Missouri. The Tigers went 9-23 this season which tells you Valparaiso's in trouble.

54. UC IRVINE (21-12)
The tournament newcomers will be hard-pressed to overcome Louisville, but hey, it could happen.

55. UAB (19-15)
A surprise victory in the Conference USA tournament gave the Blazers this spot. The chances of them knocking off Iowa State, however, are very slim.

56. NORTHEASTERN (23-11)
Common opponents don't tell you everything, but the Huskies lost by 25 to UMass while their round of 64 opponent, Notre Dame, beat the Minutemen by 13.

57. ALBANY (24-8)
The Great Danes went 15-1 in the America East Conference. Unfortunately for them, Oklahoma doesn't play in America East.

58. GEORGIA STATE (24-9)
After failing to reach 40 points in their Sun Belt championship victory, the Panthers will need to find some offense in a hurry.

59. NEW MEXICO STATE (23-10)
Riding a 13-game win streak the Aggies will have to be at their absolute best against Kansas.

60. NORTH DAKOTA STATE (23-9)
The Bison are led by Lawrence Alexander who hit on over 44 percent of his 3-pointers this season. As long as he takes 50 shots from the outside against Gonzaga they should be fine.

61. BELMONT (22-10)
Taylor Barnette gets a chance to upset his old team, as the former Cavalier will try to lead Belmont over Virginia.

62. TEXAS SOUTHERN (22-12)
The Tigers didn't even need to win their conference tournament due to Southern's ineligibly for the postseason (they won anyway). They will have to beat Arizona. Though, no free rides this time.

63. LAFAYETTE (20-12)
Welcome to the NCAA tournament! Your reward? A first-round date with Villanova!

64. COASTAL CAROLINA (24-9)
Could this be the year a No. 16 finally beats a No. 1 seed? Of course it could. Will Coastal Carolina be the team to do it? Nope.

65. MANHATTAN (19-13)
The Jaspers should be able to get by Hampton as part of the first four. Of course, that would be followed by a matchup with undefeated Kentucky. But hey, at least it was fun while it lasted.

66. NORTH FLORIDA (23-11)
The Ospreys get this spot ahead of Robert Morris by virtue of winning the alphabetical battle.

67. ROBERT MORRIS (19-14)
The Colonials may very well beat North Florida in the First Four, which would mean a (likely) loss to Duke in the round of 64.

68. HAMPTON (16-17)
As the only team to make the tournament with an under .500 record, the Pirates bring up the rear.
