The string of favorites emerging victorious continued Friday with Maryland holding on to defeat 13th-seeded Valparaiso 65-62.

Dez Wells put the fourth-seeded Terrapins up four with a little under two minutes left to play and Tevonn Walker got one back for the Crusaders with a minute to go. After Maryland failed to score on it's next possession, Valpo rebounded with 33 seconds left and a chance to tie.

However, for some reason the Crusaders allowed the clock to run down to under 14 seconds before calling a timeout. They then failed to get a shot off in the dying seconds with Keith Carter committing a turnover, though the argument could be made he was fouled on the play.

This is a foul. Valpo should be shooting three free throws.

Alec Peters finished with a game-high 18 points while Walker chipped in 14 for Valpo.

Melo Trimble picked up a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards while Wells and Jared Nickens also had 14 points for the Terrapins.

With the win, Maryland moves on to the Round of 32 where it will take on West Virginia.
