Oklahoma State HC Travis Ford ejected from son's high school game
Oklahoma State wasn't in action Thursday night, but that didn't stop Travis Ford from making headlines.
The Cowboys head coach was ejected from his son Brooks' high school basketball game for arguing with an official. The 45-year-old wasn't happy with the physical play and told the closest referee to "blow your whistle" and "do your job," Stillwater News Press columnist Ron Holt told John Helsley of The Oklahoman.
According to Holt, the referee "never warned (Ford)", and quickly said "you're gone" before ejecting him.
Ford's Stillwater High lost the game 63-51, but as consolation, Brooks was named the player of the game.
Ford released a statement through Oklahoma State in regards to the incident, offering an apology for what happened.
We have consistent dialogue with our student-athletes about their representation of Oklahoma State University and Cowboy basketball. The lesson is always that there are no days off from that responsibility. While people can debate whether my comments to a referee during a high school game involving my son warranted being asked to leave the building, as Mike Holder and I discussed this morning, there is no question I should have exercised better judgement in not publicly expressing my feelings. I regret the situation, and apologize for the unfortunate and unwanted distraction.
The Cowboys are back in action Saturday against Minnesota.
