Report: Saint Mary's Randy Bennett turned down UNLV job
First, Cincinnati's Mick Cronin turned down the UNLV head coaching position, and now Saint Mary's Randy Bennett has declined an interview with the Runnin' Rebels, sources told Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Cronin flirted with the possibility of moving west last week, even taking a trip to Las Vegas for an interview, but Bennett immediately declined a $1.5-million offer to move to the storied program. The 53-year-old has been with the Gaels since 2001, posting a 333-151 record.
Saint Mary's has qualified for five NCAA tournaments under Bennett's watch, and captured the regular-season WCC title this season, but lost in the conference tournament final to Gonzaga.
UNLV has also interviewed New Mexico State's Marvin Menzies and Arkansas Little-Rock's Chris Beard for the position.
