Everything you need to know about the NCAA Regionals

It could be anyone this year.

With the field of 64 set for their run at the College World Series, there's no telling who will be crowned victorious this season.

As it stands, the last two championships were between Vanderbilt and Virginia. But with Florida, Louisville, and Miami sitting atop the RPI rankings, we're going to take a look at which teams have the edge, which players are worth keeping an eye on, and everything else you need to know ahead of the 2016 NCAA Regionals, which begin Friday.

The Juggernaut - Florida

Florida is the No. 1 overall seed for a reason. The Gators sit atop the RPI rankings with a 47-13-0 record, thanks in part to the perfect combination of speed, power, and pitching. Sophomore first baseman Peter Alonso is a slugger by any stretch of the word, batting .352/.455/.581, while 6-foot-7 lefty A.J. Puk could be the best pitcher available in the MLB draft.

The Sleeper - Navy

The Midshipmen are legit. Despite being ranked 145th in the country in the RPI, Navy has quietly racked up a 42-14-1 record, losing only four games on the road. Navy also has seven players batting north of .300, and the pitching staff has a combined ERA of 2.78. Don't be surprised to see this squad crack the Super Regionals.

The Veteran - Virginia

When a team makes it to the College World Series title game two years in a row - and wins it the second time - it's no fluke. Virginia has a knack for winning big games. The Cavaliers feature the returning Daniel Pinero, Matt Thaiss, and Ernie Clement, and are always poised for a championship run regardless of where they are in the polls.

5 players to watch in Regionals

Florida LHP A.J. Puk: It goes without saying Puk is at the top of most major-league draft boards. At 6-foot-7, 230-pounds, the junior lefty owns a sparkling 2.88 ERA in the SEC, and shows comparisons to Hall of Famer Randy Johnson.

Florida Atlantic IF C.J. Chatham: Chatham just hits, and he does it a ton. Having played in every one of FAU's 55 games this season, he belted eight homers while batting .367 with 49 RBIs to only 33 strikeouts in 237 at bats.

Auburn OF Anfernee Grier: Another threat all around, Grier was the catalyst for Auburn, batting .366 with five homers and 19 stolen bases. The Tigers have a shot at the CWS, but only if Grier catches fire at the right time.

Louisville OF Corey Ray: Corey Ray is an RBI waiting to happen when he steps up to the plate. The Louisville junior is the epitome of a five-tool player, smashing 15 home runs to go with a .320 batting average. He also swiped a whopping 39 bases, so pitchers are on notice.

Clemson LHP Pat Krall: The ace of the Clemson staff, Krall is another dominant lefty in college baseball. After dealing at Temple, the school dropped the baseball program, and Clemson ended up with a gem as a result. Krall is the best reliever in the country, with a ridiculous 1.31 ERA in 75 2/3 innings. He's essentially the college version of New York Yankees lefty Andrew Miller.

5 Regional Games to keep an eye on

Miami vs. Florida Atlantic: Miami is another one of those teams that's worth keeping an eye on. An ultra-successful season should translate to glory, but if the Hurricanes can't figure out how to pitch to C.J. Chatham, he's going to hurt them when it matters most.

UL Lafayette vs. Sam Houston State: This first-round game might not seem like much, but there's a good chance one of these teams will advance beyond the Super Regionals. At 41 wins apiece, Sam Houston's offense could trump UL Lafayette's pitching and carry them deep into the tourney.

Texas Tech vs. Dallas Baptist: Although Texas Tech can hit, Dallas Baptist has always been so close to stardom. Texas is a hotbed of baseball, and just like TCU's emergence in the past five years, DBU is next on the list of must-watch teams.

Virginia vs. Bryant: No one really knows much about Bryant, the second seed heading to Virginia's home park. But this site could play host to one of the biggest surprises of the tourney. The Cavaliers are again favored to make the CWS, but with Bryant in town, things could take a drastic turn.

NC State vs. Navy: On paper, NC State should be the team to come out unbeaten in the Regionals. But Navy can flat out hit and pitch. For anyone looking for an upset, this is the game to watch.
