SEC to provide injury reports for conference games

The SEC will begin providing public injury reports detailing the availability of its college football, basketball, and baseball players for each conference game in 2024, the conference announced Thursday.

The new policy goes into effect with the beginning of the 2024 SEC football season and will be required for both men's and women's basketball and baseball.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said the change was implemented to "reduce pressure from outside entities seeking participation information" and to protect the integrity of the sport and the conference's players.

The reports have to be submitted three days prior to a conference football game. From there, daily updates and a final report 90 minutes before kickoff must be announced.

Players can be described as available, probable, questionable, doubtful, or out on the reports. Only available, game-time decision, or out can be used on the game-day reports.

Football programs that don't submit reports accurately and on time will be fined $25,000 for a first offense and up to $100,000 plus other punishments for third or further violations.

Baseball and basketball programs must give their availability reports the night before conference games. If they don't, they can be docked a maximum of $25,000.

The SEC, Big Ten, and MAC are now the three conferences that provide game-day injury reports. However, the Big Ten and MAC reports are for all games and are only required on game day.
