The Chicago Cubs dipped into one of baseball's royal bloodlines on Friday by selecting Cal State Fullerton right-hander Chad Hockin, grandson of Hall of Fame slugger Harmon Killebrew, with their sixth-round draft pick, 194th overall, in the 2016 MLB Draft.

Hockin, a reliever, owned a 1.05 ERA to go along with 23 strikeouts and three saves in 20 appearances during his junior season with the Titans. The 21-year-old was ranked 70th on MLB Pipeline's Top 200 draft prospects list, and is said to have "closer-type stuff" according to MLB Pipeline's scouting report. He did miss some time this season due to elbow tenderness.

Hockin chose to pursue a career on the mound instead of at the plate, where his grandfather made his name. Harmon Killebrew slugged 573 home runs over his legendary 22-year career and was named American League MVP in 1969.
