Houston officials discussing new contract for Tom Herman

Houston is doing all it can to keep the most-wanted man in college football.

Tom Herman's name has been mentioned for practically any coaching job that is rumored to be open this coming offseason, but Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek is acting fast to keep him in Texas.

"We're committed to making it very hard for him to leave here at this point," Yurachek said on the Nate and Creight show on 1560AM in Houston, as per Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle. "Somebody is going to have to come and really take him and offer him something really phenomenal because we are going to make it really hard to him to say no to the University of Houston."

Yurachek said he's discussed parameters on a new, extended contract for Herman, who was given a salary bump to $3 million annually prior to the 2016 season.

Herman is set to receive a $5 million bonus should Houston join a Power 5 conference, but the decision by the Big 12 earlier this week to vote against expansion has put those plans on hold for the time being.

In two seasons with the Cougars, Herman has posted a 19-2 record and captured the school's first American conference championship.
