Former Baylor QB Jarrett Stidham transfers to Auburn
Former Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham will be playing for Auburn next season, after committing to the Tigers as a junior college transfer on Saturday.
Stidham came to Baylor as the second-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2015 and the 37th overall prospect on the ESPN 300.
Following a season-ending injury to starting quarterback Seth Russell, Stidham was pressed into action during his freshman campaign, and immediately shone in Art Briles' fast-paced offense.
The Texas native would finish the season completing 68 percent of his passes for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns. While he was recruited as a dual-threat option, he only carried the ball 36 times in his first season, most likely due to the injury concerns at the position for Baylor.
After Baylor dismissed Briles in May, Stidham opted to transfer out of the Baylor program, rather than play for interim coach Jim Grobe. He spent last season attending a junior college close to the Baylor campus, and will be eligible immediately for Auburn in the 2017 season.
His signing is massive for Gus Malzahn and the Tigers' offense, one that struggled after starting quarterback Sean White suffered a shoulder injury. Auburn featured the nation's sixth-ranked rushing attack, but only threw for 170 yards per game, ranking 112th in the country.
White just completed his sophomore season with Auburn and figures to be back in the fold next year, but Stidham's dual-threat option likely gives him the inside track to the starting job for the Tigers.
Stidham will have three years of eligibility remaining when he joins Auburn.
