Report: Miami's Malek Young to undergo career-ending neck surgery
Malek Young's playing days appear to be over, as Bruce Feldman of Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Miami defensive back will undergo career-ending neck surgery.
Young suffered the injury during the first quarter of the Hurricanes loss to Wisconsin and never returned to action.
Late Saturday he sent a tweet out saying "God has a better plan," and was instantly responded to by defensive coordinator Manny Diaz.
God has the best plan, even when we don't understand His ways or His timing. You are a great warrior and a true Cane...and there can only be one first...you'll always be the 1️⃣st to rock the chain! ⛓📙_📗⛓ pic.twitter.com/fJDLCuXbjT

The sophomore was the first player to wear Miami's coveted turnover chain, an accessory that became a national phenomenon for the swarming Hurricanes defense.
Young had 43 tackles on the season with two interceptions and eight pass breakups.
