FIU's Lewis roasts Miami after upset with 'University of Coral Gables' shot
Florida International wasn't content with just a shocking 30-24 win over Miami on Saturday, as the Panthers also turned in quite the performance in the postgame media session.
The two schools lie just eight miles apart, and it seems the Conference USA outfit was having fun with their more famous neighbors' actual location throughout the buildup to the contest.
"We wasn't even calling them the University of Miami during the week," linebacker Sage Lewis said, as per Manny Navarro of The Athletic. "We were calling them the University of Coral Gables. We're the true Miami school. We have more students internationally. We did it for the university and really for the world."
The Hurricanes entered play as 20.5-point favorites over their lesser-known opponents, but a dismal performance saw the Panthers claim the program's first-ever win over a Power 5 opponent.
"One of the darkest days in this program's history," Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz told reporters after the game. "That's on me. I've got to take the responsibility for that."
The college football world is certainly familiar with Miami's local rivalries with powerhouses Florida and Florida State, but it appears there's a new school they need to be paying attention to in the Sunshine State.
