Report: Power 5 conferences could postpone football season

The NCAA football season is in jeopardy due to the coronavirus.

Power 5 conference commissioners held an emergency meeting on Sunday, and there's "growing concern" among officials that the college football season and other fall sports can't be played, sources told ESPN.

"It doesn't look good," one Power 5 athletic director said.

Big Ten presidents are reportedly ready to postpone the conference's fall sports - ideally until the spring - after a meeting on Saturday. They've asked commissioners and university presidents from other Power 5 conferences - the ACC, Big 12, Pac-12, and SEC - if they would do the same.

The Mid-American Conference became the first FBS league to postpone its fall sports season on Saturday.

The postponement or cancellation of the season reportedly seems "inevitable," but one of the Power 5 conferences will need to lead the way.

"Nobody wanted to be the first to do it, and now nobody will want to be the last," a Power 5 coach told ESPN.
