Purdue's Brohm drafts detailed outline for spring season starting Feb. 27
Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm has a plan to play the postponed fall football season in the spring.
Brohm has drafted a detailed proposal for the Big Ten campaign that includes an eight-game spring schedule running from Feb. 27 to April 17. The season would feature no bye weeks and include a two-week preparation period before the postseason. Training camps would start in mid-January.
Each team's eight-game slate would feature six divisional games. The two remaining contests would either be a pair of crossover games or one crossover matchup and a divisional bout to determine the conference champion, according to Brohm.
As for championship games, the head coach has proposed two scenarios.
In one scenario, the Big Ten title game would take place on May 1. The Rose Bowl would follow, as would the four-team College Football Playoff if a Big Ten school claimed a berth.
Brohm's second plan features a six-team playoff. All Power 5 championship games and a wild-card matchup would be played on the same date. The top two winning seeds would then have byes, with the remaining four schools playing for spots in the semifinals.
In both cases, the national championship game would be concluded by May 15.
Under Brohm's plan, training camps for the 2021 fall season would begin on Sept. 4. A 10-game fall regular season, which would include one bye week, would kick off on Oct. 2.
Brohm's outline for the 2021 fall campaign utilizes the spring postseason model. The College Football Playoff would conclude by Jan. 15, 2022.
