Thompson blasts Florida State for lack of transparency on health concerns

Florida State wide receiver Warren Thompson penned an open letter Thursday criticizing the Seminoles' coaching staff for a lack of transparency regarding players' health amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"During this entire week of camp, I have been lied to multiple times about the conditions of other players' health as well as mine," Thompson wrote. "It has been shown to myself and the rest that our leadership is based off an 'I' mentality, with them only worried about their own future rather than their own athletes.

"I have been ridiculed about speaking up regarding this issue and it needs to be addressed for myself to safely continue the season."

Wide receiver D.J. Matthews apparently agreed with his teammate's assertions:

Matthews tweeted Wednesday night that he had tested positive for COVID-19, but the tweet was quickly deleted, according to David M. Hale of ESPN.

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell said Thompson's comments were disappointing, according to Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times. Norvell also said he spoke to Thompson last night, adding that there will be an open discussion with the team about the complaints.

It appears some Florida State players disagree with the criticisms.

Star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, safety Jaiden Woodbey, and defensive back Asante Samuel Jr. all offered public support for the Seminoles' health protocols after Thompson shared his remarks:

This isn't the first time Seminoles players have criticized the program for its handling of internal issues this offseason. Wilson wrote in early June that Norvell lied to the media about one-on-one meetings with players in the wake of George Floyd's death in police custody.
