Auburn missed three preseason practices last week due to nine positive coronavirus cases on the team, head coach Gus Malzahn told Josh Vitale of the Montgomery Advertiser on Sunday.
The outbreak forced 16 total players to miss the team's last workout Tuesday because of the test results, with Malzahn saying the virus hit two different position groups particularly hard.
The team plans to continue with preseason workouts and practices later this week without the 16 players, who will continue following the school's quarantining protocols.
The Tigers are slated to open the 2020 season on Sept. 26 versus Kentucky.
