Florida's chance at a spot in the College Football Playoff is likely over after a stunning finish saw LSU down the sixth-ranked Gators on a late field goal Saturday night.

Kicker Cade York converted a school-record 57-yard game-winning kick with 23 seconds left after one of the most shocking penalties in recent memory kept the Tigers' final drive alive.

The Gators appeared to have stopped LSU on 3rd-and-long with the score tied and just under two minutes remaining. However, Marco Wilson celebrated breaking up the play by throwing one of the Tigers' shoes 20 yards down the field. Wilson was immediately flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, resulting in a 15-yard penalty and a first down.

Six plays later, LSU had progressed to the Florida 39, setting up the 57-yard field goal for York. An intense fog that rolled into the stadium did not deter the star kicker, who boomed one through the uprights to secure the victory.

The loss sees the Gators finish the regular season at 8-2 with a spot in the SEC title game awaiting next weekend versus Alabama. Even a stunning upset over the top-ranked Crimson Tide likely won't be enough to see Florida qualify for the SEC title.

While LSU struggled to a 4-5 record this season, the dramatic win over the Gators as a 23.5-point underdog will certainly change the mood around Baton Rouge heading into the offseason.
