Report: LSU-USC set for 2024 opener in Las Vegas
LSU will take on USC at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to open the 2024 season, a source told Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger.
The contest will be LSU's first in Nevada, Dellenger adds.
LSU and USC have met just twice before, with each side winning once. The Tigers won the 1984 matchup 23-3, while the Trojans took the 1979 clash 17-12.
There are also ties between LSU head coach Ed Orgeron and USC. Orgeron logged two stints with the Trojans (1998 to 2004 and 2010 to 2013). He was named interim head coach during the 2013 season and finished the year with a 6-2 record. However, the school decided to hire Steve Sarkisian following the campaign, prompting Orgeron's departure.
USC went 5-1 in 2020, but it lost the Pac-12 championship game to Oregon. Meanwhile, LSU struggled following its 2019 national championship, finishing with a 5-5 record last season.
