LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is shouldering the blame for the Tigers' shocking 38-27 loss to UCLA.

"We didn't perform like we're supposed to at LSU," Orgeron said, according to ESPN's Kyle Bonagura. "It's my responsibility. I told that to the team. Obviously, we're going to look at it schematically, where we've got to get better."

The Bruins outclassed the Tigers in the trenches. UCLA rushed for 210 yards on 47 carries while LSU could muster only 49 yards on 25 carries.

LSU has struggled out of the gate in recent seasons. UCLA's victory marked the second straight opening loss for the Tigers since they won the national championship in 2019. Mississippi State beat LSU in last year's opener.

"One game does not define a season, but we do understand that was a letdown for our fans and I take responsibility for it," Orgeron added. "We've got to get better."

UCLA head coach Chip Kelly wasn't shocked by the final result, crediting his team's poise leading up to the bout.

"There may be some people surprised out there," Kelly said. "There wasn't anybody surprised in our locker room because of the preparation that they put in this week."
