Ole Miss trolls Hugh Freeze, Liberty after win
Ole Miss took a few playful jabs at former head coach Hugh Freeze after Saturday's 27-14 victory over Freeze and his current program Liberty.
The Rebels' social media team sent a tweet referencing recruiting violations that occurred during Freeze's tenure with Ole Miss. It followed up with a photo of Freeze's famous hospital-bed debut with Liberty accompanied by Saturday's final score.
Both tweets have since been deleted.
With the program under scrutiny for recruiting violations in 2013, Freeze tweeted: "If you have facts about a violation, send it to [email protected]. If not, please do not slander these young men or insult their family."
The hospital-bed photo, meanwhile, dates back to Freeze's first game with Liberty - he coached from a hospital bed inside the stadium while recovering from a staph infection and back surgery.
"These tweets were unfortunate and not who we are in Ole Miss athletics," Rebels athletic director Keith Carter told ESPN's Chris Low. "When I found out about them, they were immediately taken down. I have spoken with (Liberty athletic director) Ian McCaw to relay my sincere apology. We will work to do better in the future."
Saturday's win moved Ole Miss to 7-2 while Liberty dropped to 7-3.
