Oklahoma State's Gundy: I wouldn't let Texas, Oklahoma in Big 12 meetings
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy wouldn't let Oklahoma or Texas participate in Big 12 meetings if it was up to him.
"It's interesting," Gundy said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Dave Wilson. "We go to conference meetings, and OU and Texas are in there. They're still in the conference. But I'm guessing when they leave, they're scratching down things that can help them when they're in the SEC. So it is an unusual situation."
He added: "The new commissioner, I mean, honestly, if I was him, I wouldn't let OU and Texas in any meetings."
Texas and Oklahoma have long been rivals of Gundy's Cowboys but are set to depart for the SEC in 2025.
Gundy clarified that his comments came "jokingly" but pondered how a similar situation would transpire in the corporate realm.
"If you're strategically in a business meeting, if it's two cellphone companies, I don't want somebody from their company in my company," Gundy added.
The Bedlam Series between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State appears to be in jeopardy once the Sooners move to the SEC. Gundy said that continuing the rivalry from 2025 onward isn't "feasible" due to scheduling conflicts.
With the losses of Oklahoma and Texas, the Big 12 is set to add Cincinnati, UCF, Houston, and BYU in 2023. The conference is also reportedly interested in adding members from the Pac-12.
New Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark said Wednesday that the conference is "open for business."
