Texas names Ewers starting QB
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian named Quinn Ewers the starting quarterback Friday, according to Brian Davis of The Austin American-Statesman.
Ewers competed with Hudson Card for the starting job.
A former five-star recruit, Ewers initially committed to Texas before decommitting and joining Ohio State. He transferred back to the Longhorns last December.
Card appeared in eight games last season for the Longhorns, making two starts. He threw for 590 yards with five touchdowns to one interception.
Sarkisian had been mum on who would lead Texas in 2022 but said earlier this week that he had "an idea" of who would win the job, according to ESPN's Chris Low.
Ewers' first action under center will come in Texas' season opener against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 3.
