Former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord committed to Syracuse on Sunday.

McCord entered the portal in a stunning move on Dec. 4, ending a three-season stint with the Buckeyes. The junior passer has one year remaining of eligibility and is expected to start for the Orange in 2024. McCord took official visits to Syracuse and Nebraska.

"I have one more chance to go out and really commit myself, and going through the process, I was looking at schools where I'd have a chance of winning right away," McCord said, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. "And with the pieces going there, I'll definitely have that option."

The signal-caller started 12 games at Ohio State in 2023, completing 65.8% of his passes while throwing for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns against six interceptions.

The Buckeyes started their 2023 campaign on an 11-game win streak before losing to Michigan. McCord decided to leave Ohio State after Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day refused to commit to him as the team's starter in 2024 following the loss to the Wolverines, according to Bill Rabinowitz of The Dispatch.

Syracuse finished the 2023 regular season with a 6-6 record. Garrett Shrader led the team at quarterback, finishing the year with 1,686 yards and 13 touchdowns to six interceptions. He also added 469 yards and eight TDs on the ground.

The Orange recently hired former Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown to replace Dino Babers as head coach.

"What coach Fran has been able to do in the last few weeks since becoming head coach, it speaks volumes," McCord said. "I think the pieces are all coming together at the right time."
