No. 2 WR Jeremiah Smith sticks with Ohio State commitment
Jeremiah Smith stuck by his year-long commitment to Ohio State, locking in with the Buckeyes on Day 1 of the early signing period.
Smith is rated by ESPN as the No. 2 receiver in the nation and the seventh-best overall prospect in the Class of 2024. The Florida native was coveted by every major program in the country and was a target for a late move to Florida State or Miami before signing with Ohio State.
The Chaminade standout is the latest star in the Buckeyes' receiver pipeline that has brought names like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. to Columbus in recent years.
Smith's decision to remain with Ohio State is crucial for Ryan Day after top-20 receiver prospect Jeremiah McClellan flipped from the Buckeyes to Oregon earlier on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder is one of the more athletic players in the country, with countless highlights in his senior season showcasing that ability.
"He's one of the top guys to ever come out of South Florida," head coach of American Heritage high school Mike Smith told Manny Navarro of The Athletic. "He's a matchup issue. Even when you think you're doing a good job, you're really not. He makes one play and blows the whole game open."
Smith's final choice makes it two straight classes that Ohio State has landed a top-five receiver from Florida after Brandon Inniss joined the Buckeyes last year.
