Miller Moss named USC's starting QB

USC head coach Lincoln Riley named Miller Moss the team's starting quarterback on Monday.

The redshirt junior, who spent the majority of the past three seasons as a backup for the Trojans, will finally get his opportunity to lead the offense.

Moss was considered the front-runner to succeed Caleb Williams after delivering a memorable performance in a win over Louisville last December. He completed 23 of 33 passes for 372 yards while recording a Holiday Bowl-record six touchdowns in a 42-28 win.

"He has a really good knowledge of the system, and he does a great job sharing it with his teammates," quarterbacks coach Luke Huard said recently, according to ESPN's Paolo Uggetti. "Miller has done a great job of developing himself; he can make all the throws."

UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava will serve as the backup to begin the year after producing an impressive performance in USC's spring game. Junior quarterback Jake Jensen has also received reps during camp.

Moss will be tasked with leading the Trojans in their first campaign as members of the Big Ten. USC kicks off its season in Las Vegas against LSU on Sept. 1.
