Head coach Mack Brown isn't impressed with North Carolina's showing Saturday.

The Tar Heels surrendered an absurd 53 first-half points against James Madison in a shocking 70-50 upset loss. It's the most points North Carolina has ever allowed in a half in the program's 121 seasons.

"Embarrassing day. Shocking day," Brown said postgame. "You shouldn't be at North Carolina and lost to a Group of 5 team."

The Dukes' 70-point total also matched the most the Tar Heels have ever allowed in a game. To add insult to injury, North Carolina paid James Madison $500,000 to come on the road and play the contest.

While the Tar Heels put up 50 points in the loss, Jacolby Criswell threw two picks, including one pick-6. James Madison also forced three fumbles, with one ending up in the end zone off a punt block.

North Carolina's defense was simply non-existent against a James Madison offense that put up just 13 points last game versus Gardner Webb.

In addition to the Tar Heels making program history, Brown suffered his first loss in 36 years as a head coach when his team scored 50-plus points in a game, according to Cole Cubelic of ESPN. Brown had previously been 66-0 in those situations.
